Description
Death of the Unicorn
The Death of the Unicorn tapestry is a detail from the sixth tapestry in the series of seven of The Hunt for the Unicorn tapestries. It is also known as The Unicorn is Killed and Brought to the Castle – we see the unicorn twice: being killed and then slung on a horse. The tapestry is full of allegorical details surrounding the death of Christ.
These Unicorn Tapestries were woven in Brussels in 1495 – 1505 and are now exhibited in the Metropolitan Cloisters, New York. Today the Death of the Unicorn tapestry is woven in France in 80% cotton and 20% viscose and it is lined, with a rod pocket for easy hanging.
