Tapestry Description

La Manta – four figures

La Manta – four figures tapestry is a detail from La Manta frescoes, also called the Nine Worthies. This early medieval fresco of about 1420 was painted by The Master of Mantua. It shows the Nine Worthies in the baronial hall of the Castello della Manta, Saluzo, Italy: three good Christians, three good pagans and three good Jews.

This detail of the tapestries which reproduce the frescoes shows Godfrey of Bouillon (1058-1100) on the left. He led the First Crusade and was proclaimed King of Jerusalem in 1100. The La Manta tapestries are woven in France in a fine acrylic/viscose blend with golden thread detailing. They are lined, with a rod pocket for easy wall-hanging.
