Tapestry Description

The History of the King – square

Les Sonneurs du Roi tapestry

The History of the King – square tapestry portion is from a series of fourteen tapestries woven at Les Gobelins workshops in Paris to celebrate the victories of Louis XIV. This scene is from “The History of the King” tapestries by Charles Le Brun. Sometimes called “Les Sonneurs du Roi tapestry”, it is the central part of a full tapestry scene.

Today this high quality tapestry is woven in France in a fine 95% cotton weave and is lined, with a rod pocket for easy hanging. We supply hanging information with each order.

PLEASE NOTE: this image is not as good as the tapestry so please refer to the full tapestry scene to see better colouring. There is also a vertical detail, Les Tambours tapestry, showing the right portion of the full tapestry.
