Tapestry Description

The History of the King – vertical

Les Tambours tapestry wall-hanging

The History of the King – vertical tapestry portion is from a series of fourteen tapestries woven at Les Gobelins workshops in Paris to celebrate the victories of Louis XIV. This scene, sometimes called Les Tambours tapestry wall-hanging, is from the series “The History of the King” by Charles Le Brun.

Today this high quality portiere tapestry is woven in France in a fine 95% cotton weave and is lined, with a rod pocket for easy hanging. We supply hanging information with each order.

PLEASE NOTE: this image is not as good as the tapestry so please refer to the full tapestry scene to see better colouring. There is also a square detail, Les Sonneurs du Roi, showing the central portion of the full tapestry.
