Tapestry Description

Beauvais wall tapestries

The Old Mill vertical tapestry is the tall slim central portion of the Old Mill tapestry. It is from the 18th century Noble Pastorale wall tapestries series. The original series of these Louis XV tapestries were woven in Beauvais in 1755 where Francois Boucher (1703-1770) was Director of the royal tapestry workshops. A protégé of Madame de Pompidour, Boucher was also Court Painter to Louis XV and was immensely influential in art during his lifetime.

This, like most of our Francois Boucher tapestries, is now woven in Italy in 75% cotton and 25% viscose. We also have a version including a courting couple. These Beauvais wall tapestries are available either unfinished, ie off the loom without a lining for US$95, or as a lined wall tapestry with a rod pocket for US$180.
