Tapestry Description

Althea Portiere – right

The Althea Portiere – right tapestry is inspired by an enamel dish created in about 1875 by the French potter Joseph-Theodore Deck (1823-91), having a classic floral design with a modern twist. Portiere wallhangings were used to flank doorways of elegant French chateaux. The full Althea Portiere is available also divided in two with this right side and a matching left side which make a dramatic pair of tapestries.

This tapestry wall-hanging is woven in France in a high quality 50% wool and 50% cotton weave which results in fullness and depth yet also fine detailing. It is lined, with a rod pocket for easy hanging.
