Tapestry Description

Althea Portiere wallhanging

The Althea Portiere wallhanging tapestry is inspired by an enamel dish created in about 1875 by the French potter Joseph-Theodore Deck (1823-91), having a classic floral design with a modern twist. Portiere wallhangings were used to flank doorways of elegant French chateaux – the Althea Portiere wallhanging is available with separate left and right portions which make a dramatic matching pair of tapestries.

It is woven in France in a fine 50% wool and 50% cotton weave which results in fullness and depth yet also fine detailing. The tapestry is lined, with a rod pocket for easy hanging.
