Bayeux Tapestry Banquet
Medieval tapestry wall-hanging
The Bayeux Tapestry Banquet scene shows Duke William of Normandy and his lords enjoying a banquet at Pevensey before the Battle of Hastings in 1066. It is from the famous embroidery (not a tapestry) that shows the history of the Norman invasion of Saxon England in 50 scenes from the death of King Edward the Confessor through William the Conqueror’s invasion to the decisive Battle of Hastings. Today it is displayed at the Musée de la Tapisserie de Bayeux in Bayeux, Normandy.
This medieval tapestry wall-hanging is woven in Belgium today in a 72% cotton, 19% trevira and 9% wool weave which gives full and depth with good detailing. The Bayeux Tapestry Banquet scene is fully lined, with a rod pocket for easy hanging – we supply instructions for this with each order. A shorter tapestry of the scene is also available. Here is a tapestry detail of the banquet showing Odo, the Bishop of Bayeux and half-brother of Duke William, giving thanks for the meal:
Adrienne, a regular Australian customer, purchased several Bayeux tapestries for framing and wrote this Google Review: “Highly recommended. Wonderful quality tapestry pieces. Very helpful service, am sure to buy again!”
In her Vermont home Julia hung her Bayeux Tapestry feast wallhanging scene (it has a slightly reddidh hue on the right side):
Our Bayeux Tapestry selection is woven by four different weavers in France and Belgium. These are Belgian tapestries from one company there which all have the same yarns and colour tones – this list can be handy when hanging Bayeux tapestries together so that they match.
