Bayeux Tapestry King Harold

Leaves for Normandy

Bayeux Tapestry King Harold is an early scene from the 11th century Bayeux Tapestry where Harold, the Saxon king, leaves for Normandy in 1064 to meet William, Duke of Normandy.

Today this portion of the famous embroidery is a French wall tapestry woven in 80% cotton and 20% viscose. It is fully lined with a border, having a rod pocket – with every order we enclose suggestions to help you hang a tapestry. This medieval tapestry is also available without the border (ME010A).

Entitled “Hic Harold Mare Navigavit”,” Here Harold sails the sea” (that’s my schoolboy remembrance of the translation), this portion of the Bayeux Tapestry hangs in a bedroom in Holland, Pennsylvania:

You might find it helpful to know that the links below all show tapestries woven by the same French weaver, having the same colour tones and yarn. (Four different European weavers produce our selection.) This is especially handy when hanging matching Bayeux tapestry wall-hangings side by side.
