Blue Lady portiere tapestry
Pair of portiere hangings
The Blue Lady portiere tapestry is one of a pair of portiere hangings in the Directoire style inspired by the murals at the palace of Princess de Polignac, a friend of Marie Antoinette (who suffered the same fate).
It matches the Gold Lady portiere – a portiere is a long slim wall hanging designed to hang on either side of elegant doorways. Today both are woven in France in 80% cotton and 20% viscose. They are lined, with a rod pocket for easy hanging. We supply instructions for the care and hanging of tapestries with each order.
Isabelle sent us this photo of this French portiere tapestry hanging in her home in Quebec, splendidly setting off her period decor:-
