Tapestry Description
Dark Althea portiere
French tapestry wall-hanging
The Dark Althea portiere tapestry is inspired by an enamel dish created in about 1875 by the French potter Joseph-Theodore Deck (1823-91). Portiere wallhangings were used to flank doorways of elegant French chateaux. The striking Dark Althea portiere is woven in one size, though it is a version of a rich wine-coloured tapestry available in three formats.
This classical yet modern floral French tapestry wall-hanging is woven in a fine 50% wool and 50% cotton weave by a long-established weaver which results in fullness and depth yet also fine detailing. It is hard to give full justice to it in a photograph since the subtle backgrounds add to its richness and the flowers and leaves ‘lift up’ out of the background. This contemporary floral tapestry is lined, with a rod pocket for easy hanging.
Customers in Ontario sent us the photo below and posted this Google Review of a French tapestry : “My wife and I recently purchased a French tapestry wall hanging from Martin and Linda. Purchasing an art piece such as a tapestry on-line for us was a challenge because one can obviously not see what the real product looks like. Linda was able to describe to us over the phone the colour and texture of the tapestry so we felt like it was right in front of us. Martin was able to answer all our questions. The tapestry arrived in an amazingly quick time. It is exquisite and looks stunning hanging in our home. Thank you Martin and Linda.
Two very happy customers.“
