Description
Elysee Portiere bouquet tapestry
Pair of portiere tapestries
The Elysee Portiere bouquet tapestry is one of a pair of portiere tapestries commissioned for the Elysee Palace by Empress Eugenie (wife of Napoleon III) and woven at Beauvais. It matches another tapestry featuring a statue. (A portiere is a wall hanging over a door or, more often, beside an elegant doorway.)
Today this pair of matching tapestries are woven in France in 80% cotton and 20% viscose. They are lined with a rod pocket for easy hanging – we provide tapestry hanging information with each order.
