Tapestry Description

Francois Boucher tapestries

The Noble Pastorale tapestry is probably the best-known scene from the 18th century Noble Pastorale tapestry wall-hangings series. The original series of these Louis XV tapestries were woven in Beauvais in 1755 where Francois Boucher (1703-1770) was Director of the royal tapestry workshops. A protégé of Madame de Pompidour, Boucher was also Court Painter to Louis XV and was immensely influential in art during his lifetime.

This, like most of our Francois Boucher tapestries, is now woven in Italy in 75% cotton and 25% viscose. It is available either unfinished, ie off the loom without a lining, or as a lined wall tapestry with a rod pocket in these two sizes:-
– 27″x67″ US$105 unlined or US$195 lined,
– 37″x77″ US$185 unlined or US$295 lined.
