Tapestry Description
Royal Forest tapestry
The Royal Forest tapestry is one of a large series often called the Wawel tapestries since they were woven to hang in the royal Wawel Castle in Krakow, Poland. They are also called the Jagaloon tapestries or the Jagiellonian tapestries, named after the Jagiellonian royal dynasty. There were over 360 tapestries originally, including many verdure tapestries, decorating Wawel Castle where 136 remain today. These verdure, forested scenes, were woven in Brussels in about 1560.
Today this Belgian tapestry wall hanging is woven in 84% cotton, 9% polyester and 7% viscose resulting in a full weave yet with fine detailing. It is lined, having a rod pocket for easy wall-hanging – we supply instructions about how to hang a tapestry with every order.
We have several other Wawel Castle verdure tapestries available, many making excellent matching pairs or triptychs.
