Tapestry Description

The Knights Depart tapestry

The Knights Depart tapestry is a smaller version of The Departure of the Knights tapestry from the second Quest for the Holy Grail tapestries. These were designed by Sir Edward Burne-Jones in 1890 and woven by Morris & Co at Merton Abbey. William Morris and John Henry Dearle also designed elements. Originally called the San Graal tapestries, they are now on display at the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery.

The tapestry is woven in France by Jules Pansu in 94% cotton weave and it is lined, with a rod pocket for easy hanging. This Burne-Jones tapestry is now available in one size. The background is a dark blue. The left (The Knights) and right (The Ladies) halves, and the full scene in a higher quality weave, are also available as separate tapestries.
