Tapestry Description

Francois Boucher wall tapestries

The Old Mill tapestry shows a famous scene from the 18th century Noble Pastorale tapestry wall-hangings series, here with no people present. The originals of these Louis XV tapestries were woven in Beauvais in 1755 where Francois Boucher (1703-1770) was Director of the royal tapestry workshops. A protégé of Madame de Pompidour, Boucher was also Court Painter to Louis XV and was immensely influential in art during his lifetime.

This scene focuses on the mill, the lake and a waterfall. Like most of our Francois Boucher wall tapestries, it is woven in Italy in 75% cotton and 25% viscose. It is available either unfinished, ie off the loom without a lining, or as a lined wall tapestry with a rod pocket: 27″x41″ US$85 unlined or US$160 lined.
