Tapestry Description

Triumph of Apollo tapestry

Bernard van Orley wall tapestries

The Triumph of Apollo tapestry is one of our classical wall tapestries, designed by Bernard van Orley (1491-1541) showing Apollo with the Muses. It is typical of the classical Gobelins tapestries woven at Oudenaarde in Flanders.

Today the Triumph of Apollo tapestry is a fine Belgian wallhanging woven in 84% cotton, 8% wool and 8% polyester yarn that is tightly woven resulting in a rich full appearance yet with good detailing. The tapestry is lined, with a rod pocket for easy wall-hanging.

Note that one size (40″x51″) of these Bernard van Orley wall tapestries is in a horizontal format and the others are vertical. The horizontal one has less foreground and cuts out the upper tree portion, also being without the top central medallion in the border. We can email an image of this version to you.

Please note that the largest two sizes are non-returnable.

Here is this splendid tapestry in the home of a customer (the image is a little “flat”):
