Grapes Harvest tapestry
Musée National du Moyen Age
The Grapes Harvest tapestry is the right half of the famous Vintage tapestry woven in Flanders in the late 15th century. It is now exhibited at the Musée National du Moyen Age (the Cluny Museum) in Paris in their stunning tapestries collection. We see the lord and lady inspecting the grape harvest (Vendange) and the pressing of the grapes. Note two interesting elements of the design which correspond to the date of the tapestry weaving – Mille Fleurs (thousand flowers) in the foreground as in so many 15th century tapestries, and the inclusion of the sky creating perspective as generally seen from the early 16th century.
The Grapes Harvest tapestry shows the slightly faded appearance of the original and has a fine 50% wool and 50% cotton weave from a long-established French weaver. It is lined with a rod pocket for easy hanging. It makes a superb pair of matching medieval tapestries when hung alongside the Pressing the Grapes tapestry. Please note that it is non-returnable.
Here is the Grapes Harvest tapestry hanging in a home in Pennsylvania. Below it is this pair of vendange wall tapestries – the exposure varies due to light from the adjacent window.
