Tapestry Description
The Banquet tapestry
Medieval tapestries
The Banquet tapestry is a charming snapshot in history showing the engagement banquet of Louis XII of France and Anne of Brittany at the Castle of Nantes on 7th January 1499. (This was the second time Anne was to be queen, following the death of Charles VIII.) The original was woven in Tournoi in about 1510, measuring 9’7″ x 11’6″. Look for the wine cooler, frog and other touches of humour.
One of our most popular medieval tapestries, this is woven in France in 80% cotton and 20% viscose and is lined, with a rod pocket for easy hanging. It is also available without the border.
Note: the above image shows the larger size. The smaller size has a slightly lighter colour for the central tapestry although the border is unchanged.
