The Royal Palace – square tapestry
The Royal Palace – square tapestry is the central detail of the tapestry sometimes called Verdure au Chateau which illustrates the Chateau of Chambord. It is one of the ‘Royal Residences’ tapestries designed by Charles le Brun in about 1670 on the commission of Louis XIV. This series of twelve Louis XIV tapestries featured twelve of his royal palaces – Les Tentures des Maisons Royales tapestries were woven at Les Gobelins, Paris in the late 17th century.
Today it is woven in France in a fine 50% wool / 50% cotton weave and it is lined with a rod pocket for easy wall-hanging.
