Unicorn at the Fountain tapestry
Hunt of the Unicorn tapestries
The Unicorn at the Fountain tapestry is the second scene in the late 15th century series The Hunt of the Unicorn tapestries. These were possibly commissioned for the wedding of Louis XII of France and Anne of Brittany. They are now displayed at the Metropolitan Cloisters, New York. This one is sometimes known as The Unicorn is Found – twelve hunters have found the unicorn who is purifying the waters of the fountain with his horn.
This French medieval tapestry is woven in 80% cotton and 20% viscose and is lined, with a rod pocket for easy wall-hanging. It has a dark blue lower background. The tapestry is also available without the blue border.
Please note that the above image shows the larger size. The smaller size has a slightly lighter colour for the central tapestry although the border is unchanged.
