Skaters vertical tapestry
Mois de Lucas tapestries
The Skaters vertical tapestry is the central part of a skating tapestry scene from the set of Mois de Lucas tapestries first woven in Brussels in 1535, later adapted at the Gobelins workshops in Paris. They are now at the Metropolitan Museum, New York.
This December scene shows skaters on a pond, with a castle in the background. Today this skating tapestry is woven in France in a high quality 50% wool and 50% cotton weave. This weave results in an ideal combination of fullness and depth yet with fine detailing. It is lined, with a rod pocket for easy wall-hanging. We also have the full skaters tapestry available.
