Description
The Royal Palace
Verdure au Chateau wall hanging
This is the extra long version of the Royal Palace tapestry from the ‘Royal Households’ tapestries series designed by Charles le Brun in about 1670 on the commission of Louis XIV. This series, Les Tentures des Maisons Royales, illustrated 12 Louis XIV chateaux, each corresponding with a month. This one shows the Chambord Chateau and represents September. (It is sometimes called the Verdure au Chateau wall hanging.)
Today it is woven in France in a high quality wool/cotton weave and is lined, with a rod pocket for easy hanging – we provide tapestry hanging information with each order. (Note that the red tones on this image are a bit too pink, they should be a deeper wine colour like CE140.)
