William Embarks – Bayeux Tapestry

Ship and horses

William Embarks – Bayeux Tapestry. This is the most popular wall tapestry from our selection of Bayeux tapestries for sale. It shows Duke William of Normandy’s army embarking by boat from France to invade England – the ship and horses representing his force.

This famous embroidery (not a tapestry) is 224 feet (nearly 70 metres) long and 20″ high (50cm) with fifty scenes of the history of the Norman invasion of Saxon England – from the death of King Edward the Confessor to William the Conqueror’s victory at the Battle of Hastings in 1066. Today it is displayed at the Musée de la Tapisserie de Bayeux in Normandy.

This scene from the Bayeux Tapestry is woven in France in 80% cotton and 20% viscose, and it is lined, with a rod pocket for easy hanging. It is also available with a border. Additionally, the left and right sides of this medieval tapestry are available separately, with or without the border.

This was a wedding gift, now hanging in its new home:

You might find it helpful to know that the links below all show tapestries woven by the same French weaver, having the same colour tones and yarn. (Four different European weavers produce our selection.) This is especially handy when hanging matching Bayeux tapestry wall-hangings side by side.
