Portiere

Portiere tapestries are tall slim wall-hangings which hung on either side of elegant doors of French chateaux and palaces in past centuries. Today a portiere is often a woven tapestry hanging, sometimes in a pair, with broader uses in the home. Two or three of these are handy to decorate large walls. The high walls of stairwells suit portieres well such as in this example from our Botanical Tapestries Collection:
