The Unicorn at the Fountain tapestry, sometimes called The Unicorn is Found, here wonderfully reproduces one of the Hunt for the Unicorn tapestries. The twelve hunters have found the unicorn purifying the waters of a stream flowing from the fountain. Note the mixture of native and exotic animals. Like all these Unicorn Tapestries allegorical symbolism abounds. This series of seven early 16th century tapestries is now at the Metropolitan Cloisters in New York.
This is one of the four medieval Unicorn Tapestries woven today; this one in France in a high quality 50% wool and 50% cotton weave resulting in fullness and depth yet also fine detailing. It is fully lined, with a rod pocket for easy wall-hanging.
